Manufacturing hall · workshop

Heated production hall: what do the doors, roof and pipework cost you?

In a workshop, building losses and process are intertwined: roller doors cycle, extraction pulls air out, warm-air heaters work high up. A night-time survey separates envelope losses from process losses and shows in HUF which item is worth fixing.

01 / The situation

How is it different from a plain warehouse?

  • 01

    Doors that open all day

Worn brush and rubber seals on roller and sectional doors leave permanent gaps. The gap grows year by year and nobody measures it.

  • 02

    Extraction and make-up air

Cold air enters through every opening to replace what process extraction removes. Envelope defects therefore cost more than in a hall without extraction.

  • 03

    High space, warm roof

Warm-air heating warms the roof, and the roof hands the heat on. Where insulation is damaged or wet, the outflow is largest.

02 / What we typically find

What we typically find

Typical items in this type of facility. Which of them exist in your building is what the survey shows: we do not promise defects.

  • Roller and sectional doors

Worn brush seals, sagging bottom rubber, perimeter gaps. Usually the first quick-payback item.

  • Wall-panel joints

Open panel joints, especially around doors and at corners.

  • Roof ridge, rooflights

Gaps along the highest point of the roof and around the rooflight perimeters.

  • Wet roof insulation

Wet patches next to drains, gutters and roof penetrations.

  • Uninsulated heating and steam pipes

Missing or damaged insulation on hot-water and steam lines and valves inside the hall.

  • Heaters, flues, waste heat

Warm-air heater flues, and heat from compressors and ovens that could be reused.

03 / Worked example

Example, October 2026 prices Estimate

The example: Workshop / small production hall. 40 x 25 m, 7 m high, 18 C, gas warm-air heaters, 1 roller door (4.0 x 4.5 m) + 1 sectional door (3.5 x 3.5 m), process extraction. Medium case: Both door seals poor, 25 m of wall-panel joint, 30 m2 wet roof, 30 m eaves thermal bridge.

A Roller door: perimeter seals (13 m x 10 mm) ≈ HUF 65,000/season ≈ HUF 30,000 ≈6 mo
A Wall-panel joints (25 m x 2 mm) ≈ HUF 120,000/season ≈ HUF 110,000 ≈11 mo
A Sectional door: perimeter seals (13 m x 8 mm) ≈ HUF 50,000/season ≈ HUF 90,000 ≈22 mo
B Wet roof insulation (30 m2) ≈ HUF 170,000/season ≈ HUF 660,000 ≈48 mo

Heating cost of the fault-free baseline: ≈ HUF 5,300,000/season; the defects of the medium case add 7.3%.

Energy price basis: Hungarian business gas, net, 9 October 2026: central 40.4 Ft/kWh, range 32.1–56.9 Ft/kWh. The forward curve implies lower prices in the following years.

Our recommendation

What fits a workshop?

For a simpler hall under 1,000 m² the Quick diagnostic already finds the essentials: doors, panel joints, roof, pipes. For a more complex site or several buildings, the 3D package gives you the spatial picture.

  • Electrical cabinet screening: HUF 12,000 per cabinet with a package (not a safety inspection)
  • Additional building on the same site: 60% of the list price

What we ask in return

  • Written consent to an anonymised case study (sector, size band, region; no name, logo or address). You approve the final text.
  • A 30-minute feedback interview, and a follow-up call after six months on which fixes were done.

Same scope and quality as a list-price order. The price does not depend on what you say in the feedback.

05 / How it works

Three steps from quote to fix list

  1. Step 1: Briefing and quote

We ask about size, heating or cooling system and energy price. You get a fixed written quote.

    1 working day

  2. Step 2: Night-time survey

We survey in the heating season, at night, when the hall is heated and the doors are closed. For the interior walk-round we ask for a colleague who knows the process.

    on site

  3. Step 3: Report and walkthrough

PDF report: for each item the location, likely cause, estimated loss with a range, fix suggestion and priority. Raw files and a walkthrough.

    10 working days

06 / Common questions

What people usually ask

Do you survey while we are running?
Exterior images are taken at night; the interior walk-round can follow your shift pattern. We do not stop or touch any machine.
What do I get in the report?
Annotated thermal images, and for each item its location, likely cause, estimated loss in HUF per season with a range, a fix suggestion with a cost band, an A–B–C priority and payback, as a PDF.
Do I need a contractor or an investment to start?
Not for the survey. After the report you decide what to fix and who does it. We can recommend contractors but accept no commission.

07 / Honest limits

What we do not do

  • Compressed-air leaks and the mechanical condition of machines are not something a thermal camera shows.
  • We give only an indicative estimate of process waste-heat recovery; we do not design it.
  • Savings materialise only after the fixes are done; we do not guarantee them.

08 / Get a quote

Request a quote for this type of facility

Tell us the type, location and approximate size of the facility. We reply by the next working day at the latest. The request is for business purposes: we serve companies and organisations.

E.g. what the issue is (high bills, draughts, damp …) and when a survey would suit you.

Condition: written consent to an anonymised case study and a short feedback conversation.
