Electrical cabinet · screening under load

A heating terminal shows on a thermal image before the machine stops

A loose or oxidised connection gains resistance and heats up under load. A thermal camera sees this behind the opened cabinet cover, before the terminal burns out or the machine stops. The aim is early warning. It is not a safety rating, and not the mandatory inspection.
  • HUF 12,000 + VAT per cabinet with a package
  • Stand-alone HUF 18,000 + VAT per cabinet, min. HUF 60,000 + VAT
  • Under load, also in summer

01 / The situation

Why bother?

  • 01

    Small defect, big stake

A loose terminal causes a few watts of loss, which is irrelevant as energy. The stake is downtime and fire risk, and we do not put a HUF value on that.

  • 02

    Invisible to the eye

A heating connection hides inside the cabinet. Only the thermal image shows the difference between phases on loaded conductors.

  • 03

    It needs load

Heating only shows under current. So we screen at normal operating load, and your electrician opens the cover.

02 / What we typically find

What we typically find

Typical items in this type of facility. Which of them exist in your building is what the survey shows: we do not promise defects.

  • Loose, oxidised terminal

A connection visibly warmer on one phase than on the other two.

  • Overloaded breaker

A breaker carrying near or above its rating, a heating cable.

  • Fuse holder, busbar joint

Badly contacting fuse link, busbar joint, distribution bar.

  • Contactor, motor protector

Contacts and terminals heating in motor circuits.

  • Phase imbalance

Different loading and heating of the phases.

  • Motor, bearing, drive

A heating bearing or winding on a consumer fed from the cabinet.

03 / Worked example

What can an item like this be worth? Example, October 2026 prices

Example, October 2026 prices Estimate

The example: Loose three-phase terminal (electrical hot spot). Phase terminal carrying 160 A with +0.5 mOhm extra contact resistance (one phase; the all-three-phase case is shown separately). 3,000 h per year at that load (assumption).

Loss at one 160 A terminal
12.8 W
Example
Price of the energy lost
5,100 HUF/year
Estimate range: HUF 4,000–5,900
Local temperature rise (illustrative)
13–51 K
Example
Re-torque and check of terminals
45,000 HUF
Estimate band: HUF 25,000–90,000

A loss of 38 kWh a year is negligible on the bill. The stake is failure and fire risk. Sourced figure: of 736 fires investigated in 2022, 73 (9.9%) were attributed to electrical energy (national fire-investigation sample, all building types; not broken down for business premises). Fix: terminal replacement HUF 60,000–250,000.

Energy price basis: electricity, net, estimated: central 132 Ft/kWh, range 104–153 Ft/kWh (October 2026). We use the figures on your invoice.

Estimate – not a guarantee. Figures are model-based and actual values may differ.

Our recommendation

How to order?

With a building survey: HUF 12,000 + VAT per cabinet. Cabinets only, stand-alone: HUF 18,000 + VAT per cabinet, minimum HUF 60,000 + VAT. Your electrician opens the cabinets. Screening is most useful in summer, at peak load. The pilot price applies to the Quick diagnostic and the 3D package; cabinet screening is added as an option at list price.

  • Quick diagnostic at the pilot price: HUF 135,000 + VAT, extended with cabinets
  • Annual programme: winter survey and summer cabinet screening (up to 10 cabinets) together

What we ask in return

  • Written consent to an anonymised case study (sector, size band, region; no name, logo or address). You approve the final text.
  • A 30-minute feedback interview, and a follow-up call after six months on which fixes were done.

Same scope and quality as a list-price order. The price does not depend on what you say in the feedback.

05 / How it works

Three steps from quote to fix list

  1. Step 1: Briefing and quote

We ask about size, heating or cooling system and energy price. You get a fixed written quote.

    1 working day

  2. Step 2: Night-time survey

We screen under normal operating load, so by day or during a shift; summer is best. Your electrician opens the cover and we image the opened cabinet with the thermal camera.

    on site

  3. Step 3: Report and walkthrough

PDF report: for each item the location, likely cause, estimated loss with a range, fix suggestion and priority. Raw files and a walkthrough.

    10 working days

06 / Common questions

What people usually ask

Is this the mandatory electrical inspection?
No. The mandatory inspection is carried out by an authorised professional and certifies compliance. Thermal screening gives early warning of heating connections and complements it.
Why does it need load?
Because a faulty connection only heats under current. On an empty or switched-off cabinet the fault does not show.
Who opens the cabinet?
Your electrician. We image the opened cabinet from a safe distance with the thermal camera and do not touch the equipment.

07 / Honest limits

What we do not do

  • This is not the mandatory periodic inspection of electrical installations, not touch-protection, insulation or loop-impedance testing and not a fire-safety inspection. Those are carried out by professionals authorised under Hungarian law.
  • A thermal image shows only the moment of the screening at the load then present; it does not prove absence of faults.
  • We do not work on live equipment and do not touch the installation.
